GOOGLE GEMINI
GOOGLE GEMINI (Inside Google Docs – Free)
| Tool Title | Google Gemini for writing support and simplification |
| Short Description | Google Gemini is an AI assistant that can support learners with drafting, rewriting, summarizing, and clarifying text. When integrated with Google Docs, it helps users create and refine written content in a familiar workspace. |
| Main Functionalities | It can generate first drafts, summarize long passages, rephrase text, shorten or elaborate content, convert ideas into bullet points, and adapt tone or style depending on the task. (Google Workspace) |
| Educational Value (Why it helps NEETs) | Gemini is especially useful for learners who struggle to start writing, understand complex explanations, or organize ideas independently. It helps break difficult tasks into smaller, more manageable steps, which can improve literacy, comprehension, confidence, and self-directed learning. |
| Accessibility Considerations | It can support learners with low writing confidence or reading difficulties by simplifying language, generating clearer structures, and offering alternative wording. Prompts and outputs should remain short, clear, and guided, and trainers should model how to ask for plain-language explanations and how to compare the AI output with the original text. |
| Risks & Limitations | AI outputs may contain inaccuracies, oversimplifications, invented details, or biased wording. Learners should be taught to verify information, compare sources, and avoid sharing sensitive personal data. Gemini should be used as a support for thinking, not as a substitute for judgment. |

| Licensing / Cost | Gemini in Google Docs is not universally free for all users. Google states that Gemini features in Docs are available in selected Google Workspace plans, and Google AI Pro also includes Gemini in Google apps such as Docs and Sheets. Availability may vary depending on account type, plan, and rollout. (Google Workspace) |
Proposed Practical Activity
Title: Simplifying and Personalizing a Text with Gemini
Objective:
To help learners improve comprehension, identify key information, and connect a topic to their own experience by using Google Gemini as a support tool.
Duration:
30–40 minutes
Materials:
- A short text about employability or digital identity
- A device with internet access
- Google Docs with access to Gemini, or Gemini in a browser
- Notebook or digital document for final answers
Procedure:
- The trainer provides learners with a short text related to employability or digital identity. The text should be relevant to their daily life and written in moderately challenging language.
- Learners read the text individually once to identify the general topic.
- They then use Gemini to simplify the text in plain language.
- After reading the simplified version, learners ask Gemini to extract three key ideas from the text.
- Learners compare the original and simplified versions and discuss whether the main meaning has been preserved.
- Each learner writes one personal reflection sentence explaining how the topic relates to their own life, goals, or experiences.
- If appropriate, learners share their key ideas and reflection with a partner or with the whole group.
- The trainer closes the activity by reminding learners that AI is a support tool and that its responses should always be reviewed critically.
Suggested Prompts for Learners:
- “Explain this text in simple language.”
- “Summarize this text in 3 key ideas.”
- “What is the main message of this text?”
- “Give me a shorter and clearer version of this paragraph.”
Expected Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the activity, learners will be able to:
- understand the main meaning of a short text with AI support
- identify key ideas in a structured way
- reflect on the relevance of the topic to their own life
- use AI critically as a tool for comprehension and not only for automatic answers
Pedagogical Value:
This activity supports literacy, comprehension, critical thinking, and self-reflection. It is especially useful for NEET learners because it reduces the fear of difficult texts, makes information more approachable, and encourages personal engagement with the topic.
Accessibility Considerations:
The trainer should choose short, relevant texts and encourage learners to use short, clear prompts. Learners who need extra support may work in pairs or receive a prompt template. The activity can also be combined with text-to-speech tools if needed.
Assessment:
Learners successfully complete the activity if they:
- produce a simplified version or understand the simplified output
- identify three relevant key ideas
- write one meaningful personal reflection sentence
- show awareness that Gemini’s response should be checked and not accepted automatically
